Registration/Adding Classes
Students may register or add additional courses at UW-Stevens Point through accesSPoint during the designated clear-add period for each session.
Students are expected to complete the courses for which they register. If a student decides not to continue with a course, they must officially drop it by following the university’s procedures. Students who do not attend or stop participating without officially dropping the course will still earn a grade on their transcript at the end of the semester.
Students should attend the first-class meeting or obtain permission from the instructor to be absent. Students who do not attend during the first two class meetings may be withdrawn from a class if space is needed for others. It is the student’s responsibility to officially drop the course through accesSPoint or by contacting the Office of the Registrar.
Clear-Add Deadline
For full-semester (16-week) classes, the clear-add period is the first 5 business days of the term. Shorter sessions have proportionally shorter clear-add periods. A schedule of clear-add deadlines for all sessions can be found on the Office of the Registrar website: Add Schedule by Term.
Adding a class after the Clear-Add Deadline
After the clear-add deadline, students may not add a class except for extenuating circumstances and only when approved by the adviser, instructor and department chair. Students should use the Late-Add form, found in the Forms tile of accesSPoint.
Drop/Withdrawal Deadlines
Clear-Drop Deadline
For full-semester (16-week) classes, the clear-drop period is the first 10 business days of the term. Shorter sessions have proportionally shorter clear-drop periods. A schedule of clear-drop deadlines for all sessions can be found on the Office of the Registrar website: Drop Schedule by Term.
Late-Drop Deadline
The late-drop deadline for a full-semester (16-week) class is the Friday of Week 10. Shorter sessions have proportionally shorter late-drop deadlines. A schedule of late-drop deadlines for all sessions can be found on the Office of the Registrar website: Drop Schedule by Term.
Dropping a class during the Clear-Drop Deadline
Students may drop/withdraw from courses at UW-Stevens Point through accesSPoint during the designated clear-drop period for each session. Courses dropped during the clear-drop period will not appear on a student’s academic record; however, changes in class enrollment may impact a student’s tuition and fee balance, graduation eligibility, financial aid award, and/or veterans’ educational benefits.
Dropping a class before the Late-Drop Deadline
Students may drop/withdraw from courses after clear-drop deadline through the late-drop deadline, after obtaining permission from the adviser and instructor. A grade of W will appear on the student’s academic record.
Dropping a class after the Late-Drop Deadline
Students may submit an appeal to drop a class(es) after the late-drop deadline for extenuating circumstances, such as serious illness, personal duress, or factors beyond their control. Supporting documentation is required for an appeal.
Appeals are submitted using the Academic and Tuition Appeal eform, found in the Forms tile of a student’s accesSPoint homepage.
Students dropping all classes on or after the first day of classes should see the section on Withdrawing from UW-Stevens Point.
Withdrawing from UW-Stevens Point
Students who intend to withdraw from the university (i.e., drop all classes) must follow the university’s official withdrawal process.
Steps to Withdraw from the University:
o Discuss your decision with your academic adviser (recommended).
o Complete the Term Cancellation/Withdrawal eform, found in the Forms tile of accesSPoint. The official withdrawal date will be the date the form was received by the Office of the Registrar.
o You will be provided with a Withdrawal Checklist to help you complete necessary steps.
Transcript Notation and Grades:
o Withdrawal during the clear-drop period:
o No classes will appear on a transcript, only the withdrawal date.
o Withdrawals after the clear-drop deadline and through the late-drop deadline:
o W-grades will be recorded for each class.
o Withdrawal after the late-drop deadline:
o Students may only withdraw for extenuating circumstances (e.g., serious illness or personal issues beyond their control), with supporting documentation and approval from the Academic and Tuition Appeals Committee. If approved, grades of W will be recorded for each course not completed. Courses completed prior to withdrawal will receive the grade earned and associated tuition and fees remain their responsibility. If denied, students remain enrolled until the end of the term and will receive the grade earned in their class(es).
o Students who withdraw without a valid reason after the late-drop deadline will receive grades of F.
o Students who stop attending without officially withdrawing will be held responsible for payment and receive the earned grade for their class(es).
Repeated withdrawals (grades of W) may affect academic progress and financial aid eligibility. Refer to the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy in the Finances section of the catalog for further guidance.
